Hydatidosis (Echinococcus granulosus)
Introduction
Hydatidosis is a zoonotic parasitic disease caused by the larval stage of Echinococcus granulosus. It forms hydatid cysts in internal organs of intermediate hosts.
Epidemiology
- Definitive host: dogs
- Intermediate hosts: sheep, cattle, humans
Pathogenesis
- Larvae form hydatid cysts in liver and lungs
Clinical Signs
- Often asymptomatic in livestock
- Organ dysfunction in heavy infections

- Dog deworming
- Proper disposal of offal
